Anixter Present at 2011 ALAS Management Summit
On August 18 and 19 Panama welcomed the 2011 edition of the Alas Management Summit, one of the most awaited events in the Latin American technology market. As in previous editions, Anixter was present in the event, this time with a conference in charge of Mike Perkins, Vice President of Global Security Solutions with the company.
ALAS annual conference gathers more than 200 of the most renowned integrators, end users, manufacturers and distributors from around 15 countries in the Latin American region. Security management, personnel motivation and modern marketing concepts meant to offer innovative ideas to boost the security business are some of the themes included in the conference agenda annually. These are all issues in which
Anixter has very solid, long-standing knowledge.
This year, the global leading distributor of Infrastructure, Unified Communications and Security solutions, presented the current status of Network Video Applications. The conference was in charge of Mike Perkins, Vice President of Global Security Solutions with Anixter.
Perkins’ presentation focused on helping security integrators, as well as end users, understand the current status of network video applications, including the latest trends, challenges and impact on the industry. While society experiences new digital technologies communicating with each other via IP networks, the dynamics in the physical security industry has changed virtually overnight. Network video solutions now incorporate multiple vendor elements and therefore require IP based security platforms which are capable of seamlessly interoperating. This evolution in physical security has not been an easy path and has created unique challenges.
"Traditional electronic security and IT functions are converging on videosurveillance systems, forcing organizations to quickly adapt. Threats are becoming more and more sophisticated and network video applications are becoming critical and essential to personnel security and company assets", said Perkins. "Those who are experienced in security matters must work in alliance with those with IT experience to make sure organizations make the most out of network video efficiency. Traditional engineering considerations, such as camera installations or distance conditions for lightning objects, now demand additional knowledge for network design, just as bandwidth considerations for the proper design, implementation and maintenance of network video applications are also required”, said the executive.
As technological leader in the security industry, Anixter keeps customers up-to-date with the latest products, applications, standards, as well as emerging technologies. The Anixter Lab performs end-to-end tests on all solutions and generates performance reports, thus ensuring the interoperability of multiple vendor products. "If we wish to build an IP-based interoperable solution supporting future technologies, the industry needs to consider the adoption of a global standard for videosurveillance systems", says Jorge Rairán, Security Marketing Director for the Caribbean and Latin American region at Anixter. "We are now witnessing the consolidation of new guidelines in organizations favoring a global standard for the integration of network video solutions. These standards are the response to the challenges customers are facing as they migrate to IP-based security solutions".
