Anixter Joins in the Initiative for Building Greener Data Centers
Anixter, global leader in the distribution of products designed to connect security, data, voice and video systems, has announced the decision of joining the recommended practices to optimize data center performance in order to countermeasure the increasing power consumption of computing systems.
The infrastructure’s power consumption can totalize an average of 50 percent of the total power consumption in a data center. This could be substantially reduced by updating UPS systems and improving cooling systems.
Dácil Mata, leader of the Data Center Initiative at Anixter Venezuela, remarked “A proper redimensioning of the infrastructure site in relation with its IT load could bring up to a 50 percent improvement in savings of power consumption, and a migration to a towering, scalable infrastructure could as well help in the reduction of power loss”.
It is important to mention that cooling systems in these types of infrastructures represent the highest power percentage and the largest improvement area as regards efficiency. Implementation of long-run best practices strategies for air management is key to understanding data center features in relation to cooling area improvements.
“From power production to consumption in the server, each one of the steps in the power distribution system is analyzed as regards efficiency improvements. However, virtualization and consolidation efforts are essential for a consistent establishment of all operations aimed at maximizing data center efficiency”, said Mata.
